The 3 Pillars of SEO – Hmmm…..
SEO: A form of online marketing, search engine optimization (or search engine marketing) is the process of making a site and its content highly…
Over the last few years search engine algorithms have evolved and the SEO process has gotten a little more in-depth. No longer is simple “on page” optimization sufficient – search engine optimization these days now involves two other very important areas – the age of the domain, and the number of other websites linking to your website. I call all these areas the, “Three Pillars of Search Engine Optimization”.
One of these pillars lets Google, yahoo, msn….. and the other search engines know what your website is all about – this is considered “on-page” SEO. It involves placing keywords in certain areas of a website and in it’s coding. When choosing keywords it’s best to target specific phrases instead of general keywords or phrases because it will greatly increase your changes of getting your website in Google’s and other search engine search results. For instance, it’s better to target “Toronto Search Engine Optimization”, that means give a geo location with your relevant keyword rather than simply “Search Engine Optimization”.
geo-targeting: Delivery of ads specific to the geographic location of the searcher. Geo-targeting allows the advertiser to specify where ads will or won’t be shown based on the searcher’s location, enabling more localized and personalized results.
The second area contains two pillars, and lets the search engines know how important your website is relative to other websites. Again, this boils down to the age of the domain name and the amount of links pointing towards the website.
It seems that Google’s search results are tending to favor websites that have domain names that have been registered for a long time. This makes a lot of sense too – the oldest sites that have been around the longest probably deserver the higher ranking. This method of ranking search engine results also filters out the new “fly by night” website that may be looking to quickly manipulate search results and try to make a quick buck through spam, spyware, or affiliate marketing.
The last pillar involves link popularity.
figures that if lots of other websites are linked to your website, then it must be pretty important or interesting website and it probably deserves a high listing in the search engine results. Blogging is other good method to enter into search engines
